Kyiv Denies Involvement in Putin ‘Assassination’ Attempt
The world was stunned on Wednesday when Russia claimed that Ukraine attempted to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin with a drone strike on the Kremlin, an allegation that has been met with strong denials by Ukrainian officials who say that they had no involvement in the attack.
The Kremlin has stated that the attack was foiled and the alleged drones were destroyed.
However, the allegation of a security breach at the heart of the Kremlin has raised many questions about the safety of Russian President Putin.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, and video footage shows a bright flash and a puff of smoke over part of the Kremlin. Russian officials have labeled the alleged attack as terrorism and a deliberate attempt on Putin’s life. They have also warned that Russia reserves the right to take retaliatory measures against those responsible.
US officials have said that they are still assessing the incident and have no information on who might have been responsible.
Meanwhile, CNN has analyzed video footage that appears to support the Kremlin’s claim that two drones were flown above the Kremlin early Wednesday.
However, there is no evidence to suggest that Ukraine was involved.
The denial by Ukrainian officials comes as no surprise, as they have repeatedly stated that they are not involved in any attacks against Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made it clear that Ukraine uses all means at its disposal to free its own territory and not to attack others. (GFB)
