Kiddie Learning Train Wraps Up First Volunteer Training Session
Advocacy group Philippine Business for Education (PBEd), in partnership with Accenture Philippines, concludes the first virtual session of volunteer training for its community-based learning program, Kiddie Learning Train. A total of 200 individuals from Mandaue, Talisay, Metro Cebu, and Lapu-Lapu volunteered to help remediate Kinder to Grade 3 students in reading and math lessons. The first training session held on August 14, 2021 was led by Tiny Labs, a non-profit organization tasked to prepare the volunteer teachers to address the students’ needs.
The training was a combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions. The morning session began with a project overview discussed by PBEd Deputy Executive Director Diane Fajardo. The training proper was facilitated by Teachers Mary Ann Barcelon and Joyce Guerrero of Tiny Labs.
During the afternoon session, the volunteers were given the opportunity to study and familiarize themselves with the learning materials which will be used to tutor their students. It was followed by a discussion on the KitKit School Learning App, which was developed by the digital early-learning solutions provider, Enuma. The app will give access to an interactive game to help the learners improve their proficiency in reading and math.
Cebuano Youth Ambassadors Inc. (CYA) Founder and President Paolo Saberon also greeted the volunteers and discussed what is expected from them during the duration of the program. CYA is a Cebu-based group in charge of mobilizing the volunteers and other partner institutions. The session ended with the discussion of the next steps for the volunteers led by Kiddie Learning Train Project Manager, Florence Ann de Castro.
The second volunteer training session will be conducted on August 21, 2021.
