Kapag Na “In-Despair” Ka (When You’re In Despair)
And she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I have not a loaf baked but only a handful of meal in the jar and a little oil in the bottle. See, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son that we may eat it – and die.” 1 Kings 17:12
How dramatic! But many of us have felt like the widow of Zarephath at different times of our lives. Scraping the barrel of our resources, our patience, our understanding, we are overcome with negative emotions.
Despair is like quicksand. The more you struggle, the more it sucks you under. I was crying one morning out of desperation. As I sank lower and lower, my worries weighing me down, and panic setting in, this image of quicksand came to my mind. Survival experts advise that if ever you find yourself in quicksand, you shouldn’t thrash about; rather, you should try to lie still, spread your arms and look up. Look up? Look up and pray!
As the widow gathered firewood for their last meal, little did she know that the Lord had already told Elijah to go to her days before. He was sending her a miracle!
When you feel like you’re being sucked under, “be still” and surrender your situation to the Lord, look up and pray. He, who is in control, has already sent the answer to your prayers.
