‘Kadasig’ Fest 2014 Blasts Off Original Dance Beat
As way to celebrate the feast of Saint Jude de Thaddeus, Barangay Apas, Cebu City, showcased its talented Apasanons who danced their way with the “Kadasig” original dance beat, a show of devotion to the patron-saint.
What is Kadasig Festival?
Kadasig festival is an annual festivity where Apasanons offer a dance ritual showing the works and miracles of St. Jude, known as the patron saint of hopeless cases.
The word “Kadasig” means “full of enthusiasm” since the saint regarded himself as having one goal and one distinction in life showing enthusiasm and commitment in serving Jesus Christ as His good friend.
‘Kadasig’ Dance Beat
Last October 28,five contingents was seen in action as they danced in the street with its “Kadasig” original dance beat.
The fete has adopted the Sinulog concept of graceful dancing by using canned music, sang by no less than the father of Kadasig himself, Kap Ramil Ayuman.
This year’s festival aims to unite and improve camaraderie of Apasanons, and discover talents among its constituents.
Festival Activities
The festival staged its search for the Kadasig Festival Queen with five candidates from Sitio Baca, Upper Torralba, Mahayahay, San Miguel and Sitio Calvary, finally vying the crown during the Gran Mardi Gra on October 28.
The gran mardi gra was held at the Geonzon St. at I.T. Park, where contingents danced off to Gaisano Country Mall.
Among the activities are photography contest for the grand parade and dance presentations of the Kadasig festival, which featured the Barangay Apas Youth Development Council (BAYDC) and the Apas Circle of Elders.
It has been five years since the festival was launched, in time for the fiesta celebration honoring St. Jude de Thaddeus.
