July 9 has officially been declared by the Philippine government as a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.

This comes as President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. signed Proclamation No. 2, declaring Eid’l Adha a regular holiday, which was released by the Office of the Press Secretary.

This will allow Muslim Filipinos to observe the important occasion which will still be subject to health protocols.

The signing of Marcos Jr.’s declaration for July 9 came as the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos recommended the said date for the observance of Eid’l Adha.

The signing of the proclamation also conforms to Republic Act 9849, which states that the Islamic feasts of Eid’l Adha and Eid’l Fitr will be celebrated as regular holidays.

Eid’l Adha and Eid’l Fitr are celebrated worldwide annually.

Eid’l Adha is observed on the 10th day of the last month of the Islamic calendar and also marks the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, which is the fifth Pillar of Islam. (GFB)
