Jonas Wants Police Visibility in Schools
Amid reports of the attempted kidnapping of students in schools, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes expressed his intention to increase police visibility in these learning institutions.
Cortes said his proposal will be tackled in this Friday’s meeting with the Mandaue City Peace and Order Council, which will convene school opening preparations.
Jamaal James Calipayan, executive secretary of Cortes, said the intention of the mayor’s plan is to ensure that students are safe while in schools. This came up after incidents of attempted kidnapping of students at the vicinity of the Mandaue City Science High School were reported early this month. A similar incident also happened barely a week after when two students, also of the same school, while walking were invited by a man for a ride. Luckily, the students were able to run away.
“We want to increase police visibility in all public schools, especially during the time of dismissal of classes,” Calipayan said.
