Because he could not post bail, Joavan Fernandez escaped from jail around midnight.

Joavan, the son of Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez, was arrested Monday in his father’s house in Barangay Candulawan, Talisay City. He was charged for illegal possession of firearms for a 9mm and ammunition found in his possession, violation of the Commission on Election (Comelec) gun ban and illegal possession of explosives (a hand grenande was also found) before the Talisay City Prosecutor’s Office. And while he was allowed to post bail for the two offenses, City Prosecutor Marshal Rubia said the latter is non-bailable.

Joavan, who was detained at a police substation in the ground floor of the City Hall, allegedly told the police on duty at around 11PM last night if he could go out to see his family outside the jail. Minutes later when police checked, Joavan and his family were already gone.

Talisay City police acting chief Superintendent Elmer Lim sent his men and vowed to capture Joavan.
