Jeepney Fare Provisionally Reduced at P7
Transport groups on Wednesday asserted a provisional reduction of fifty centavos to the minimum fare of P7.50, while the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)7 is set to submit its resolution to the Central Office.
During the public hearing yesterday, consumer groups pushed for a one peso decrease in the minimum fare but transport groups want it at P.50.
LTFRB 7 Acting Director Reynaldo Elnar said they will submit all sentiments during yesterday’s hearing and submit it to their head office in Manila.
Earlier, Elnar said they will recommend to the Central Office a provisional fare reduction of P.50 after the public hearing.
The P.50 decrease was based on the previous petition filed by former Cebu City Councilor Augustus “Jun” Pe before the LTFRB-7, citing series of oil price rollbacks.
Elnar said the provisional rollback will be implemented before the end of December.
If the Central Office will approve the request then students, persons with disabilities and senior citizens are still entitled to the 20-percent fare discount, he said.
