JCI Philippines Concludes 6th Jayceelympics 2014
The JCI Philippines – Cebu (Cebu Jaycees), the 2nd oldest chapter in Asia, recently concluded its 6th Jayceelympics last June 29, 2014. Jayceelympics is an award-winning sports program that strives to continue JCI’s commitment of service to humanity through a day of competitive fun and learning.
This year, we are bringing together 120 kids, ages 8-12, from two different groups:
JPIC-IDC “Child’s Right and Protection
Zapatera Special Education.
JCI Cebu Inc. is a premier JCI chapter in the Philippines that has been actively promoting the development of young leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals – training them to become better citizens of the country through projects that aim to create better societies.
The event was centered on passing on 5 important lessons to the kids, who were composed mainly of working children who started to help their families earn a living at a young age. Most of these kids have histories of drug use, prostitution and abuse.
JCI CEBU is embarking on a campaign to raise Awareness of values and create positive social change through its banner campaign, Jayceelympics 2014 “Sportsmanship. Friendship. Love”
The kids will be able to showcase their athletic abilities as well as learn to work as a team and new friendships in an Amazing Race Themed Gamed the aims to develop Sportsmanship, Love and Friendship.
In line with JCI’s mission and vision of providing opportunities to empower young people to create positive change, Jayceelympics, which was organized by a small team of “baby” Jaycees or new members served as a training ground for these young leaders to hone their project management skills. Through this event, they learned how to get sponsors, interact with beneficiary communities, address logistical issues and evaluate successes and mistakes.
