Japan, S. Korea Hold Talks Over “Comfort Women” Issue
Tokyo (PNA/Kyodo) — Senior officials of Japan and South Korea started talks Tuesday in Tokyo on the “comfort women” issue involving women forced to work in wartime brothels for the Imperial Japanese Army.
Kimihiro Ishikane, director general of the Foreign Ministry’s Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau led the Japanese side while the South Korean delegation was headed by Lee Sang Deok, director general of the Northeast Asian Affairs Bureau of the country’s Foreign Ministry.
During their meeting on Nov. 11 in Seoul, no breakthrough was reached on the comfort women issue. The two sides agreed to continue talks to narrow their differences. (PNA/Kyodo) BNB/SSC
