Its Gwen in the 3rd District

Four days after the elections, Cebu’s third district finally has its congressman-elect: suspended Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia.

Following a neck-to-neck race, Garcia defeated Geraldine Yapha, incumbent mayor of Pinamungahan town, by a mere 1,984 votes. Garcia got 105,424 while Yapha 103,440 as per provincial board of canvassers.

There is, however,no news yet if Garcia will be proclaimed today.

Garcia and her brother, Nelson, are the only Garcias who won in last Monday’s polls. Nelson was reelected as Dumanjug mayor. Their brothers, Vice Mayor Marlon Garcia lost to incumbent Barili mayor Teresito Mariñas, while third district Rep. Pablo John Garcia is not faring well in the gubernatorial race.

Their father, second district Rep. Pablo Garcia lost his reelection bid to Provincial Board Member Wilfredo Caminero.
