ITCZ Continues to Bring Rains over Visayas, Mindanao on Tuesday
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday that Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) continues to bring cloudy skies with rains over Visayas and Mindanao.
PAGASA weather forecaster Buddy Javier said the ITCZ affecting Visayas and Mindanao — the thick clouds coming from the south of Asia — is considered a breeding ground for low-pressure areas (LPAs) or potential cyclones.
Javier said the presence of ITCZ will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Visayas and Mindanao and the province of Palawan.
He added fair weather with partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening will prevail over the rest of Luzon including Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, Javier said the agency is keeping watch of weather disturbance over the Pacific Ocean.
He said the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has already categorized it as a tropical depression.
Citing the agency’s numerical models, Javier said the cyclone is not expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) as it moves upward but the agency continues to monitor it.
Once it enters into the Philippine territory, Javier noted that it will be locally named “Jenny”, the 10th tropical cyclone for this year and first for this month.
In its advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to southeast will prevail over Luzon and coming from the southwest to west over the rest of the country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
The state weather bureau also did not issue a gale warning as fisherfolk are safe to venture into the seas. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
