ITCZ Continues to Bring Rains Over Mindanao, E. Visayas on Thursday

Rains are expected over some parts of Visayas and Mindanao on Thursday due to the presence of an Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its Thursday forecast, the ITCZ or the thick clouds coming from the south of Asia and considered a breeding ground for low-pressure areas (LPAs) or potential cyclones is now affecting Mindanao.

The presence of ITCZ will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas and Mindanao.

The rest of the country including Metro Manila will continue to experience fair weather or partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, weather observer Benjie Depas said the agency continues to monitor tropical storm with international name “In-Fa” which is still too far to affect the country.

Depas said In-Fa was spotted some 3,035 km east of Mindanao and continues to move west northwest at 20 kph.

Considering its distance, the weather bureau is now looking into several scenarios whether it will enter the country or not but they continue to monitor the tropical cyclone.

Once it enters the country it will be named “Marilyn,” the 13th tropical cyclone to affect the country this year.

In its advisory, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over extreme Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast to east with slight to moderate seas.

The state weather bureau has not issued a gale warning as fisherfolk are safe to venture into the sea. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
