Despite of being labeled as a country with slow internet connection, Philippines has still the number of things embedded with sensors, wireless and Bluetooth connections which are continuously embracing Filipino technopreneurs that led information technology suppliers to introduce the ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT).

No more conventional personal computers (PC), analog devices and gadgets, typical flat screen laptops and desktops to be introduced. Instead, they innovated them into more effective and efficient devices to interact with internal states as well as the external environment.

This is what IoT is all about.

Redefining PC

IoT and private/public cloud environments will augment the inspiration of MDR’s redefining “Personal Computer” into “Personal Computing”.

“Personal Computing” refers to the modern internet and the evolution of applications software to unlock doors toward collaborative, systematic and analytic computing, which will embrace to a latest lifestyle, a new way of freedom, easier living and connecting beyond boundaries of culture, race, color and gender.

IoT makes things smarter

“Imagine, if objects can represent or communicate itself digitally to people, it can be controlled anywhere. Thus, improving daily living, increasing efficiency, improved safety and security for the community,” explained by the Executive Vice President Elvi Suficiencia of MDR Sales Inc. during the symposium about IoT last June 27.

In other words, IoT makes things intelligent and smarter to respond not just to customers’ needs but also to environmental factors than an ordinary technology which is bounded with limitations. IT devices and gadgets in IoT are reinvigorated, remodeled and reinvented in so many ways to address changing preferences of the new generation customers.

Innovate analog things

Suficiencia also said technology nowadays is very limited in terms of its usage though most of the Filipinos are using smart things but only used for school, projects, work documents, worst is for gaming. If innovation in technology does not start now, when is the right time? she asked.

Intel, Cisco, Acer, Seagate, Western Digital (WD) and Gigabyte through MD Microwave Sales Inc. collaborate to change the mindset of businessmen and IT suppliers or dealers to prepare the infrastructure of the building blocks towards IoT, which refers to the Connectivity, followed by System and Data Security, Manage the information over cloud, and analyze the information for consumption among the applications and users.

Intel, which innovates smart devices for IoT, Cisco, which innovates reliable and secure network infrastructure and data centers, and Acer, which innovates smart Front-end devices, mobile and desktops, will enable devices and gadgets to become smarter inorder to sense internal and external states, then will be able to communicate to human for immediate feedback.

Seagate and WD, on the otherhand, will host all the information connected to a secured data center over the cloud thru a system of systems. Then, Gigabyte will innovate robust and cloud ready motherboards for computers.

During the launching of IoT, IT device makers displays newest and latest laptop with different features that will fascinate their customers such as slimmer notebook, detachable 2-in-1 laptop, which can be use as tablet and laptop as well, motherboards, portable hard disks, little bigger of spiral notebook sized desktops and many more.

Set minds, embrace IoT

Suficiencia believes that sooner Cebu will be equipped with sensory traffic lights which will automatically communicate with the public and private transportation, which might become a solution to lessen vehicular accidents.

“It (changes) can only be done if we will set our minds, analyze and upgrade to transform lives into countless ways,” Suficiencia said.

IoT has been introduced to businessmen, particularly suppliers and dealers of IT devices, to encourage them to change their mindset to do vertical business, and to replace conventional PCs into IoT products to have a better living.
