Ironman Organizers Set New Race Route for Bike Leg
Cebu Provincial Traffic Management focal person Joy Tumulak on Wednesday said organizers of the Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship has announced a new race route after two local government unit (LGU) executives declined to allow race participants to use the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSRP) and Liloan town’s main road on Aug. 5.
In an interview over radio dyLA, Tumulak said that the Capitol, one of the race organizers, respects the decisions of the mayors of Cebu City and Liloan town in turning down the request, citing traffic concerns that would greatly inconvenience the motorists and commuters.
Tumulak said the Ironman bike leg will have the following route: from Shangrila Mactan going to M.L. Quezon Ave. to Mactan old bridge to A.C. Cortes and to Plaridel to Ouano Ave. then left turn to Zuelig and vice versa.
He added that in going back to the starting point, racers will have to pass through the Mactan circumferential plaza to Barangay Maribago and going to Maximo Patalinghug Ave.
Racers will pass through the same route three times, Tumulak said.
Tumulak assured that all responders and traffic coordinators are on standby to assure a smooth flow of the race.
He also advised the public, especially those from the barangays of Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue that will be affected by the race, to be patient during the event.
