The Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu, headed by Rev. Fr. Manny Uy agreed to provide the school gym of its old campus along General Maxilom Avenue as the warehouse and packing area of relief goods coming from other countries for the victims of catastrophic typhoon Yolanda starting November 15.

It came after the Province of Cebu pooled efforts with the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which is the lead convenor of the #Bangon Cebu, to help manage the flow of goods and information so that the international relief may be provided to our fellow Cebuanos in the northern towns more effectively and efficiently. Other groups involved in the #Bangon Cebu are Ayala Center Cebu/ Cebu Holdings Inc., Boy Scouts of the Philippines – Cebu Council, Cebu Contractor’s Association, Cebu 6th Foundation Inc., CFIF, Cebu Parklane International Hotel/ HRRAC, JCI Cebu Jaycees, Movement for a Livable Cebu, Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., The Islands Group, PhilExport, the academe, civic groups like Rotary and Rotaract clubs, and the residents themselves.

The first batch of international goods came from the State Reserves of the Russian Federation through the efforts of Consul Armi Garcia. The Russian government donated 1,650 boxes of canned beef meat, 804 boxes of canned tuna and 284 sacks of sugar.

As of press time, over 20,000 food packs have been packed by volunteers from different companies and organizations. 1,225 goods have been distributed in the towns of Sogod, Medellin and Malapascua a day after these arrived at the Mactan Air Base and repacked by volunteers. Furthermore, 20 boxes of canned beef meat, 20 boxes of canned tuna and 24 sacks of sugar were sent to Tacloban through  Daphne Degoma of the Living Word Christian Church. Also, about 16,080 goods have been released on November 17 and are ready for distribution in the towns of San Francisco, Tudela and Poro in Camotes, Daanbantayan, Tabogon and San Remigio.

On the other hand, a benefit concert entitled “#BangonCebu We Will Rise Again Part III” was held at the The Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu last Friday (November 15) to raise funds for the typhoon Yolanda victims. Artists, bands and big personalities in the music industry, most of them are Cebuanos, participated in the cause to help the typhoon victims.  A combined total of P1, 400,000 donations in cash and in kind were generated during the event. The entire amount and items received are for immediate distribution to Northern Cebu.
