Improved SWU PHINMA Launched

The newly-upgraded and much-rejuvenated Southwestern University PHINMA reintroduced itself with a grandiose revelry on July 15, 2016. MUNDO GRANATE, or Maroon World in Spanish (Maroon is also the official color of the university.), set the bar higher for any school year opening event in the Visayas and Mindanao. The entire university community and scores of outsiders enjoyed the pep rally, food festival, acquaintance rave and urban playground rolled into one.

          The event that gathered about 10,000 people started with a gourmet food strip from Urgello Street to the university’s ballpark, with over 30 concessionaires including Hala Paella and other Sugbu Mercado cafes. Dinner ala fiesta became extra-special upon the music of student dentist DJ Don Carl Carlos, and sought-after local percussionists, The Baseo Percussion. The venue turned into a vast urban playground as giant inflatable slides delighted both kids and kids at heart.

          The formidable Cobras varsity teams from both secondary and tertiary divisions wowed the crowd with its mighty exhibitions and with the promise to regain old SWU’s basketball glory. While, the University Student Ambassadors and the Maroon Dance Crew instilled pride in their SWU family through an array of talent showcase. The carnival ended with a magnificent fireworks display and a rave party orchestrated by celebrity spinner-percussionist and ex-child actor, DJ Tom Taus, with famous local spinners DJs Polky and Elaine.

SWU PHINMA Vice President for Student Life Mr. Gilbert Braganza unveiled the school’s brand manifesto and its latest TV and cinema commercial. “Our brand paints a picture of people who always strive to become the best that they can be,” Braganza proclaimed. Hence, the #thebestyou. As a new brand, SWU PHINMA is committed to become one of the most recognized universities in the country and in the ASEAN region soon. Its revitalization agenda mean to move past the university’s ‘glory that was’ and to create a bright future for anyone who joins the 70-year old educational institution. When PHINMA Education Network took over last May 2015, it has undertaken massive and total improvements with strong focus on the facilities, instruction and customer service.

The general public is invited to join in the groundbreaking ceremony of SWU PHINMA on October 5, 2016 in the campus. Details of this upcoming event will be announced soon.
