Iloilo-Guimaras Rice Buffer Stock to Last for 89 Days
Iloilo City (PNA) -– The provinces of Iloilo and Guimaras have a rice buffer stock for 89 days, said National Food Authority (NFA) Assistant Manager Joy Pacificador.
Pacificador said that they have a total inventory of 1.9 million bags composed of government stocks, commercial and households at the NFA-Iloilo office that also covers the nearby island province of Guimaras.
He said that the 1.9 million bags could last up to 89 days, considering the daily consumption of residents of the two provinces at 21,480 bags daily.
He added that NFA continuously conducts rice procurement, as it encourages farmers to get their farmers passbook by showing their land titles or certificate of tax declaration to show their ownership of the farmland.
With this, he said the farmers could sell up to a maximum of 200 bags to the NFA that offers a better price than commercial traders.
He said NFA could buy rice from farmers for as much as 200 bags for their first delivery, but they would be required to show their farmers passbook in their next transaction. (PNA) JMC/AJPETINGLAY/CBF
