Iloilo Governor Cites Clean and Honest Leadership as Key to Fight Illegal Drugs

Iloilo City (PNA) — Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. here highlighted the importance of clean and honest leadership in fighting illegal drugs.

Defensor is in favor of involving local chief executives from the provincial down to the barangay level in campaign against illegal drugs as planned by presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte.

He pointed out that leaders should be an example to every personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Defensor said leaders should make every police personnel understand that they are doing honest governance so that they will follow.

“But if the leader is corrupt, we cannot stop that. We can never win this war against illegal drugs if we do not do this ‘leadership by example’,” he added.

Specifically, Defensor said he has received hearsays that there are police personnel in the province who are involved in illegal drugs and bribery.

However, he pointed out that there are no high ranking officials who could testify.

“We cannot send people to jail with hearsay as the basis,” he said.
