ICYMI: Spotify Went Down Yesterday Evening

Couldn’t play your favorite tunes yesterday evening? Don’t worry. You weren’t alone.
Spotify experienced a major global outage on Wednesday, temporarily disrupting access for tens of thousands of users across its app and web platforms. The issue began around 10:45 a.m. ET (10:45 a.m. Standard Philippine Time), when outage tracking site Downdetector reported over 48,000 complaints at its peak.
Users reported being unable to load the app or website, play music, or use search features. Some also noted that even Spotify’s support page was inaccessible during the disruption.
By late evening, reports began to taper off, signaling that the streaming service was slowly stabilizing. “We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!” Spotify’s official X account posted during the outage. The company’s support handle, SpotifyCares, later reassured users that “the right team is on it and working on a fix.”
While Spotify hasn’t disclosed the exact cause of the disruption, it has denied speculation that the outage was the result of a security breach. “Reports of this being a security hack are false,” the company clarified in a follow-up post.
The outage affected a portion of Spotify’s massive user base—now more than 675 million worldwide, including 263 million paying subscribers in over 180 markets.
As of now, full functionality appears to be restored, and Spotify has yet to issue a formal statement on the technical issue. (ASC)
