Hundreds Avail Free Services In Guadalupe
“Nindot kaayo ni ang programa ni Mayor Mike Rama kay naglantaw siya sa kaayohan sa mga katawhan labi na ang mga kabos nga walay ikagasto ug pacheck-up sa hospital,” shared Allen Sanchez, 38, one of the hundreds of residents of Barangay Guadalupe who availed of the free services during the “City Hall at Your Doorstep” held this morning January 8, 2016 Friday at the grounds of the Alliance of Two Hearts Church in the said barangay.
In an interview with the BARUGG News, Sanchez who availed of the free blood sugar testing and medical consultation further shared that the activity is of great hep to the people especially the less fortunate.
For Lola Eliominada Gempeso, 67, who availed of the free blood pressure test and also medical consultation, she enthuses, “Siyempre nalipay gyod kay nalibre ang pakonsulta sa doktor. Dako kaayo ni ug tabang sa katawhan aron maatiman among panglawas kay sa panahaon karon lisod ug naay sakit.”
Couple Carmilo and Arlene Cavan who brought with them their two kids for medical consultation and also availed of free vitamins, they said, “Pasalamat gyod mi ni Mayor Rama kay naa siya’y ingon ani nga programa alang sa kaayohan sa katawhan, libre pa ang pakonsulta sa doktor naa pay libreng vitamins.”
The beneficiaries availed the various basic services from the 22 departments of the city government which served as a one-stop shop with avail-all-services-you-can system on a first-come, first served basis.
Meanwhile, the “City Hall at Your Doorstep” is an initiative of Mayor Rama launched in 2010 and already institutionalized. It is conducted every Friday in line with the commitment of the Rama administration to bring the city government services closer to the people sans going to the different offices in Cebu City Hall.
Dubbed as “Feast of Free Services” the community outreach program is continuously extending helping hands to the Cebuanos. As it formally resumed its operation this year, Barangay Guadalupe once again hosted the program for the fourth time now and the first barangay to avail of the services.
The barangay is the largest among the city’s 80 villages in terms of population size which has more than 68 thousand residents living in at least 84 Sitios. It is situated in the city’s South District and about 7 kilometers or 15 to 20 minutes (taking a public utility jeepney) away from the Cebu City Hall.
Even if the village is known as an opposition bailiwick at least some barangay workers showed support for the activity such as information drive to different Sitios and assistance for the registration and getting the vital signs. Even with the changes of the venue from Guadalupe Church grounds to the Alliance of Two Hearts Church grounds on the last minute, the activity went well and was successfully conducted.
