‘Human Wastes Problem Remains Unattended’

While the provincial government has considered both medical and human wastes as threat to health, such threat remains unattended by all health authorities in the province, according to Provincial Board (PB) Member Thaddeo Ouano.

During the AGIO Forum on Tuesday morning at the Philippine Information Office (PIA), Ouano, Chairman on the Environment Committee, said, “Asa man nila ilabay ang hugaw nga ilang mahipos?”

He throws this question to all septic tank companies and all hospital authorities here.

Septic tank companies are the ones who do the ‘dirty job’ on cleaning both the residential and industrial septic tanks for fee.

Ouano, a former three-term Mayor Of Mandaue City, said that he is wondering why until now there is none of the city and municipal mayors in the province of Cebu being investigated on this matter.

Ouano said that being the chairman of the environment committee in the PB, he is pushing all these questions to all the local government chiefs in the localities, adding that this concern must be given solution by all local mayors and barangay captains in all localities.

But he himself also admitted that he could not make any suggestions or proposals where to throw the waste materials from the septic tanks as well as those waste from the hospitals.

But the PB member was sure these wastes are usually thrown to the sea.

“Busa tambok kaayo ang mga Kitong ug labaw kita nga motambok tungod kay ato mang kaonon ang mga isda nga mokaon sa maong mga hugaw”, Ouano said.

He asked where does the amputated body part of a patient thrown, and cited as example, the legs, hands or any other flesh of a patient.

“Is there anybody who heard that these matters were buried in the cemetery? So we are sure that they have thrown this somewhere to the sea”, he asked.

Ouano said this is a big problem which he considers as his homework but he calls all stakeholders to help.

The PB member said he is contemplating to make a resolution regarding this issue and to wait for its solutions which needs another more years for him to do in the PB.
