Housing Materials Distributed
Mayor Michael Rama led the distribution of construction materials Friday to the 44 fire victims in Sitio Bato, Barangay Ermita, whose houses were razed by fire last April 20.
The Cebu City government decided to extend the distribution schedule of the 10 pieces of plywood boards and 10 pieces of GI sheets to each of the fire victims at Phase 1 because the reblocking of the area have been delayed for several weeks.
The first 62 families in Phase 2, Sitio Bato were the first to receive the construction materials three weeks ago because City Hall has finished reblocking their place first.
The mayor said he is happy that the reblocking of Sitio Bato, Ermita has finally been completed and fire victims can now start rebuilding their houses, no longer in seawater but in the newly-reclaimed portion of Sitio Bato.
Rama asked each of the residents to help maintain the six-meter interior road leading to their village from M.L. Quezon Boulevard, the road behind Carbon Public Market, free from any obstructions.
When the village was hit by fire last April 20, the responding fire trucks could hardly enter the area because the interior road was blocked with the extended roof of a house and extended concrete terrace of another house.
Rama reminded the barangay officials that the city has an existing ordinance which empowers them to act against illegal constructions within their respective territorial jurisdictions.
