Hanap ang Hustisya sa mga Nabiktima sa Trahedya sa Barko
Reading the column of Atty. Frank stressing the desperate experience of a junior masscom student of Fr. Urios College in Butuan City, who lost her dad in the sinking of a passenger ship M/V “Thomas Aquinas” of the 2GO Shipping after it was rammed by a cargo ship owned by Sulpicio Lines (it assumed another company name after a series of sea tragedies) on August 16, 2013 in the sea waters off Talisay City, left a lump in my throat and pain in my heart to learn of the glaring harsh realities of a comparison made between the kind of justice our government has as compared to that of the government of South Korea where the ship’s captain and members of his entire crew were immediately arrested and put behind bars to make them accountable in the ongoing investigation of a sea tragedy that claimed 500 lives of High School students and teachers amid the angry cries of their grieving parents.
What looks so outrageously inefficient in their criminal negligence is that more than 8 months after the accident, our government authorities trying the case are still clueless in announcing the verdict of their investigation to the detriment of the poor victims’ relatives who up to now are still waiting and thirst for justice!
Footnote: The above comment came out in connection with Atty. Frank Malilong’s column in Sunstar entitled, “Sense of shame.”
