Hack Discovered for Apple’s iPhone 5s Fingerprint Sensor
The Chaos Computer Club, a group of hackers, have discovered a potential hack for breaking through Apple’s new fingerprint technology, Touch ID featured on the iPhone 5S.
First reported by The Verge, the hackers claim to be able to foil the security technology feature by “using easy everyday means.”
“In reality, Apple’s sensor has just a higher resolution compared to the sensors so far, so we only needed to ramp up the resolution of our fake”, Starbug, a hacker told The Verge.
According to the method, the hackers could just replicate a users fingerprint with a high-res photograph and produce a physical fake that could then be used on the iPhone 5S.
Despite concerns it appears Apple’s new iPhone 5S has sold out globally, in every color and capacity, pushing expected shipping dates to October.
Apple’s recent iOS 7 update has also faced concerns after an apparent bug allows users to phone anyone, anywhere despite being on the lockscreen.
A couple of years ago Google introduced the ‘Face Unlock’ security feature to Android which was discovered to be easily fooled simply by a photograph of the users face.
A YouTube video has been uploaded demonstrating the hack that can be seen below.
