Gwen Sits Back as Governor
Cebu Governor-elect Gwendolyn Garcia expressed her gratitude during her proclamation in the Cebu Provincial Capitol Social Hall on Thursday, May 16.
Her father, former Cebu Governor Pablo Garcia was also present during the proclamation.
When asked about her future plans for Cebu, Garcia said all basic infrastructures in the province must be improved and maintained, bring back the health care programs, distribute school supplies and school bags to the youth, expand women empowerment and to conduct various activities to help the elderly (senior citizens).
She also pointed out that barangay personnel like barangay tanods, Barangay Health Workers (BHW), daycare workers and lupon must receive benefits for being the front-liner of the barangay.
Garcia also called out the mayors of all LGUs to administer an activity on culture and heritage preservation.
“I will be reminding all mayors to always uphold the preservation of our culture and heritage” Garcia said.
Garcia added that she will bring back the “Suroy-Suroy Sugbo” program to boost the province’s tourism.
“Suroy-Suroy Sugbo” is a program of the Cebu Provincial Government where it takes both foreign and local tourists to travel and experience Cebu instituted by Governor Gwen Garcia.
She is also planing to meet with all the peace and order committees of all 44 towns and 7 cities in the province to discuss certain measures on how to maintain peace and order.
Governor Gwen Garcia won the midterm elections against incumbent Vice Governor Agnes Magpale.
Garcia garnered 884,365 votes while Magpale garnered 596,471 votes.
Among the officials proclaimed were Board Members from different legislative districts of Cebu.
Garcia’s daughter Christina Garcia Frasco who also succeeded in the mayoral race in the town of Liloan in northern Cebu against Judge Cañete was present at the proclamation.
Garcia was elected as Governor of Cebu from 2004-2013 where he succeeded his father former Governor Pablo Garcia. (MLC)
