Guv to Meet Daanbantayan Officials
Governor Hilario P. Davide III will meet the municipal officials of Daanbantayan within this week.
This is in connection with the town’s World Bank (WB) loan, which was disapproved by the municipal council.
The councilors who opposed the loan reportedly agreed for the governor to intervene in the controversy.
Majority of the councilors were identified with the previous administration.
Davide said, “I will try my best to settle the controversy.”
He added that he expected to meet all of them, including Mayor Augusto Corro, during the meeting.
Earlier, the Legislative Department of the Provincial Government also solved a disagreement between the executive and legislative departments of Talisay City. The Local Government Code vested the Provincial Board the power to review city and municipal resolutions and ordinances.
One of the barangay captains of Daanbantayan who visited Davide days ahead of the meeting hinted that the issue could be settled with the governor’s interference.
Daanbantayan’s Municipal Development Council (MDC) endorsed projects worth P885 million to WB. This includes the construction of drainage system, procurement of heavy equipment, relocation of the municipal hall, relocation of the wet market, solid waste management building and equipment, rehabilitation of the bus terminal, storage facilities, water treatment facilities, rehabilitation of the old public market, and the modernization of the rural health unit.
But the councilors saw no valid reason to approve the MDC endorsement. They also argued that the projects lack detailed plans.
Meanwhile, eight barangay officials of Daanbantayan met with Davide last February 17 at the Capitol.
The governor also met with Boljoon Mayor Merlou Derama and some of his barangay captains.
Some of the barangay captains submitted their requests for financial assistance for their projects while others, who already received, thanked the governor for the financial aid.
