Gunholders in Central Visayas Can Now Secure Permits in Cebu
(PNA) — Gunholders in Cebu and nearby provinces in Central Visayas no longer have to troop to Camp Crame in Manila to secure licenses to own, possess and register firearms.
The Philippine National Police Civil Security Group and Firearms Explosives (PNP-CSGFE) has opened a satellite office at Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 headquarters on Osmeña Blvd. in Cebu City.
Civil Security Group Director Melito Mabilin said they opened the satellite office as part of the strict implementation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
He said the police discovered that several gun owners use fictitious addresses and names in their licenses.
“We don’t know where these firearms are now. That is dangerous,” said Mabilin.
One of the requirements to obtain a license is that the applicant must register his firearm personally so the police can capture his picture.
The processing of applications for firearms license used to be centralized in Camp Crame, the PNP headquarters.
But the cost and burden of traveling to Manila discouraged gun owners from renewing their gun permits. (PNA) RMA/EB/NOD
