Gullas Rejects Opposition Claims over Opening of Tabunok Tricycle Terminal
Rep. Eduardo R. Gullas (1st district) this morning rebuffed claims of the opposition camp that they were responsible in re-opening the Tabunok tricycle terminal.
“It’s not true nga ang opposition nagpaabli sa terminal,” Gullas said in a press conference at his office in the University of the Visayas.
Gullas’ statement came after Talisay City Councilor Romeo Villarante, an opposition vice-mayoral bet, claimed that his party had succeeded in the re-opening of the old tricycle terminal at the Tabunok Public Market, following their repeated rallying with the tricycle drivers.
Third-term congressman Gullas, who is now running for mayor in Talisay City under the administration ticket, explained that he had a meeting with the tricycle and trisikad drivers two weeks ago, and from there he learned of their sentiments that they wanted a parking area for their units while waiting for passengers, and the closed terminal is the only option. “It was my own initiative. I felt if I’m a leader worth a salt, I should listen to the people I lead,” he explained.
It was in Sunday when Gullas led the removal of G.I. sheets which served as perimeter fence of the old terminal.
Gullas also defended his move, saying he may not be a mayor yet, but he is gunning for the position and “I don’t want to lose.” Following the opening of the terminal former Vice Mayor Aberdovey Belleza, an independent vice-mayoral bet, criticized Gullas, saying only the mayor had the right to do so. Mayor Socrates Fernandez is running for councilor with Gullas as his mayor.
