Guimaras Road to Proposed Inter-Island Bridge Readied
Road construction along the proposed Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge is being prepared with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) asking for an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC).
The proposed interisland bridge will have its jump off point in Barangay Getulio, Buenavista Guimaras, where a concrete road in going there will be constructed.
Buenavista Mayor Eugenio Reyes said he had received a letter from DPWH-6 Director Wenceslao Leaño to provide the department with the ECC to be submitted to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
“This means the bridge will materialize, and we are privileged to be the jump off point,” Reyes said.
Leaño said the department is preparing the documents for the ECC which should be complied with first, along with the cutting of trees to pave the way for the project.
“Needed also is a Sangguniang Bayan Resolution expressing no objection to the removal of trees within the road right of way limits,” Leaño said.
Reyes, meanwhile said that the DPWH has also requested the LGU to conduct public consultations with stakeholders to get their endorsements on the cutting of trees.
The Panay-Guimaras-Negros Bridge is a priority in the Regional Development Council thrusts and included in the Build Build Build Program of the Duterte Administration. (JCM/ESS/PIA-Iloilo)
