Guests Encourage Others to Experience Suroy-Suroy
The two days, one night “Suroy-Suroy Sugbu 2018 Rediscover Camotes” concluded last April 22, with guests encouraging others who have not yet joined to also experience the annual tour and discover Cebu more.
“Naay nindot diay diri uy. Nindot gyud diay ang Cebu. Unya ma-discover sab unta diay sa uban,” gushed balikbayan guest Grace Martinez, who joined the Poro, Tudela, San Francisco tour with husband Arthur, a retired sea captain.
Arthur said they left the country in 1974 yet the Suroy-Suroy provided them an opportunity to discover new things on their beloved Cebu.
After a fast-craft trip from Pier 1 in Cebu City, the 58 guests first went to Tudela for a late breakfast and entertainment and went to see Busay falls before proceeding to Poro to swim and spend the afternoon at Bojo Rock. They also got to enjoy cultural presentations, a night of tropical-themed beach party, and a visit to Lake Danao, the largest lake in Central Visayas.
Unlike past editions of the Camotes tour, guests also got to experience bird watching, cliff jumping, and waterfall trekking in addition to kayaking, relaxing in the resorts, and enjoying the pristine beaches.
While the number of guests was fewer compared to previous editions of the tour, Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale said it was a manageable number for the Capitol.
And those who experienced the Camotes tour, the second leg of the four-event Suroy-Suroy, praised how they were attended to during the duration of the tour.
“Good advantage of Suroy-Suroy Sugbu really is that it is very convenient…. All you have to do, if you can afford, is you pay. Then here comes your hotel (accommodation), here comes your food, here comes your (Capitol) staff (to assist us). You (guests) don’t think of anything (anymore), just enjoy,” said balikbayan Guinevere Iyog.
She said she would definitely tell others and encourage them to also experience Suroy-Suroy.
“This is a good recruitment for people to come by, especially for the balikbayans. They should come back and see their beautiful country…. There’s a big change since they left. I strongly recommend it to people; not only the balikbayans,” she added.
The first leg of Suroy-Suroy Sugbu 2018 took place last Jan. 24-26, covering two cities and 11 southern Cebu towns. The third leg (Midwest) is tentatively scheduled on June 16 and 17, while the northern Cebu tour has been set on Oct. 19-21.
