Guadalupe River Clean-up Drive Successful
The Guadalupe River Clean-up drive was a success after employees of the Cebu City Hall, policemen, and volunteers collected around 21 tons of garbage on Saturday, August 17.
The said clean-up drive started at 6 in the morning and was led by Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella.
The clean-up drive has an official hashtag #UbanTaSaKausaban.
It was known that this initiative is part of Labella’s top priorities during his term as mayor.
Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) head Atty. John Dacua said lack of discipline is the primary reason why the said river was full of garbage.
Dacua said that throwing of garbage into the river is strictly prohibited by law.
The 9 stations where the clean-up drive was conducted are Mohon Bridge, Haarlemmermeer Bridge, Velez Bridge, B.Rodriguez Bridge, P.del Rosario, Guadalupe Bridge, Sanciangko Bridge, Colon Bridge and Forbes Bridge.
Meanwhile, Labella said that they will show the full result of the said clean-up drive tomorrow.
Labella also eyes Mahiga creek as the next subject area for the next clean-up drive. (MLC)
