Grapes Make a Healthy Delicious Snack
Refreshing, crisp, juicy, sweet and a natural source of antioxidants and other polyphenols, grapes are both a nutritious and delicious snack. In fact, recent research reveals that among all fruits, grapes are the most preferred snack. Some of the reasons grapes enjoy such a favored status — besides being healthy and delicious – is that they require no peeling, no coring and are very portable. Also, kids love grapes and that makes them a perfect substitute for the salty, high-fat snacks we all need to avoid.
All grapes require is a quick rinse before serving. Selecting grapes is easy since they are always ripe and ready to use. Look for green, pliable stems and plump, firm berries as an indicator of freshness. Once home, grapes keep well in the refrigerator – up to two weeks. Grapes are also terrific as a frozen treat.
Frozen Grapes
- Rinse a cluster of fresh California grapes under running water and drain well.
- Make sure the grapes are fairly dry.
- Put the cluster of grapes in a bowl, or pick the grapes off their stems and put them on a cookie sheet.
- Put the bowl or cookie sheet in the freezer. After two hours, the grapes are ready to eat.
- Any uneaten grapes can be stored in the freezer in a plastic bag or sealed container, and enjoyed later.
