Graduating HS Students Killed in Boljoon Car Accident
Three high school students died while 3 others were injured after a sedan swerved and flipped over them while they were walking towards home along the Lusapon bridge in barangay Poblacion, Boljoon town at 4:05 pm Thursday.
Police identified the victim as Judy Ann Lomera, 18, Joane Romero, 16 and Cristy Marie Estella, 18, graduating students from Boljoon National High School.
The suspect, Al-Dhinier Sanaani, 26, a medical representative, is now in police custody pending a criminal case against him. He is now confined at Chua Hua Hospital for hypertension.
Based on the investigation of the police, a metallic silver Toyota Vios (TCQ 652), which Sanaani was driving, suddenly swerved and flipped over, throwing the girls off the 15-meter bridge. Sannani and his companion, Kristin Joyce Batucan, 26, also a medical representative were coming from an official function in Dumaguete City.
Police report said that while driving towards Lusapon bridge, the sedan’s right tire fell from the edge of the asphalted road. In an attempt to avoid hitting the gutter of the bridge, Sanaani swerved the vehicle to the left but lost control and instead the hit left gutter of the bridge, flipped and hit the victims who were were walking alongside the bridge.
Lomera died immediately after the incident. Estella died while being transported in an ambulance towards Cebu City while Romero died at Chong Hua hospital Thursday night.
Boljoon Police Chief investigator, SPO3 Roderick Roma said they initially examined Sanaani and was not under the influence of liquor when the incident happened.
