Gov’t to Provide Housing Lots for Vendors, Drivers
The government has exerted its all-out efforts to fully implement the law that provides dwelling lands to all low income earning Filipinos.
This was the gesture of Senona Clemen Gread, community mortgage program coordinator of the Socialized Housing Development Corporation(SHDC) in an interview Tuesday.
Gread said that SHDC is a separate government agency which was implemented through and executive order in 2004.
Its mandate is to provide housing lots to vendors, drivers and other low income earners in the community.
She said that SHDC’s function is separate from the Pag-ibig, Home Mutual Development Funds, which solely provides house and lots to all its members.
Gread said that SHDC only provides lot but not dwellers, she said. She explained that they cannot also deal individually but through an association, organization and groups of low income earners in the community.
Gread said that for those people who are residing in a private property but cannot invest money to pay for the lot, the SHDC office is willing to lend them at least P90,000 cash to be paid within 25 years in installment.
The said government office has a total membership last year of about 96 homeonwers association within Metro Cebu areas comprising the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay and Lapulapu.
According to Gread that they are expecting to expand its membership within this year to cope its mandate.
