Gov’t Agencies Pledge Support to Central Luzon PWD Welfare
National government agencies pledged support to the welfare of Central Luzon Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) as the region celebrates the 41stNational Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.
With the theme “Lokal na Pamahalaan: Kabalikat sa Pagtupad ng Karapatan ng mga Taong May Kapansanan”, the celebration aims to raise awareness on the problems on disability, and encourage every citizen to take active responsibility in addressing these issues.
“We vow to consistently ensure ready and accessible services for the PWDs by continuously collaborating with both the government and private sector in order to provide the needed attention and resources for the sector,” Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Director Marites Maristela said.
For its part, Department of the Interior and Local Government said it will be one with the DSWD in continuously advocating for the rights of PWDs by encouraging local government units to strengthen their social protection function and maintaining proper coordination with all government agencies.
Department of Health, on the other hand, stressed the importance of having a strong voice at the grassroots because they are crucial in the successful implementation of PWD rights and programs.
Other agencies also expressed support to the PWD sector by offering their programs and services including health insurance, scholarships and community trainings. (CLJD/MJSC-PIA 3)
