Governor Davide and Vice Governor Magpale Join ‘Tokhang’ in Cebu Town
Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale on Thursday joined the police in conducting “Operation Tokhang” in some villages in Cordova town on Mactan Island.
Davide said this was the first time he and the vice governor joined the police in conducting Tokhang in villages in the province.
Cordova Mayor Therese Sitoy-Cho also joined the province’s top officials in conducting Tokhang, the “flagship program” of the police in the drive against illegal drugs in the country.
But Davide said the Tokhang they conducted was more of an information campaign against illegal drugs.
In a brief program after visiting some houses in the town, Davide said the provincial government will offer scholarship to deserving children of drug pushers and users who have surrendered to the police.
Police said at least 898 suspected drug personalities in the town have surrendered since the implementation of Oplan Tokhang.
One of the scholars chosen was Policher Casquejo, a son of one of those who surrendered.
Casquejo will enrol in college as one of the scholars of the provincial government when classes open in June.
Meanwhile, Magpale, who chairs the Cebu Provincial Women’s Commission, urged parents in Cordova to help stop cyber pornography, especially those using children to pose naked for their clients.
Magpale said that while the children will not be physically touched, the activity can be a traumatic experience for them.
She said some 20 children who were rescued from cyber pornography dens are still undergoing counselling and rehabilitation. (PNA)EB
