Government Vehicles Not Spared in Anti-Overnight Parking Ops
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Region-7, in coordination with other government agencies, had launched a campaign against vehicles that are just parked overnight by its owners beside the roads.
Assisted by the personnel of the City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) and Land Transportation Office (LTO) as well as the police, the DPWH was able to issue over 20 Temporary Operators Permit (TOP) to the owners of the vehicles.
There were three vehicles that were towed-away and impounded by the team because its owners did not show up when the team arrived along Vicente Rama Avenue on Wednesday.
Citom Operations Chief Joy Tumulak said even illegally-parked government vehicles are not spared, as the barangay vehicle of Labangon was among those assessed with a violation.
“Walay pili ang among operation kay lakip ang sakyanan sa barangay giisyuhan namo og citation ticket ang drayber,” he said.
DPWH Cebu City Engineering District Head of Maintenance Division Mariano Po led the DPWH team while Tumulak led the Citom team.
It was DPWH-7 Regional Director Ador Canlas who asked Mayor Michael Rama to support his office in implementing an order prohibiting overnight parking of vehicles beside the roads, specifically if these are designated as ‘No Parking’ area.
The DPWH letter specifically asked Citom and the Office of the Building Official (OBO) to help in the initial operation against obstructions and illegally parked vehicles.
Canlas said “With your office’s continuous support to our clearing operation, we are confident that we can free our national roads within your area of jurisdiction from illegal parking and obstructions, and return to the riding public and pedestrians the space taken away from them.”
