Government Commends GMCAC for Contributions to Cebu’s Economy
On its 6th anniversary, the GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) was praised by the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) for contributing much to Cebu economy and the rest of the Visayas.
GMCAC, who manages and operates the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA), is conducting various plans and activities to constantly develop the airport. GMCAC’s management is part of the government’s Public-Private Partnership Program.
“We commend GMCAC and MCIA for their invaluable support in realizing the growth and development of Cebu and the Visayas. Their tireless efforts have resulted in the seamless connections to the rest of the world,” said OPAV Secretary Michael Dino.
Being the 2nd busiest airport in the Philippines, the development of MCIA is strategic since Cebu is a major international gateway and regional hub where goods and services are brought in and out of Cebu.
Even tourists travel directly to Cebu since MCIA also offers direct flights abroad. MCIA is considered as trade and tourism gateway in the Visayas and even in Mindanao.
GMCAC’s effort wasn’t ignored, as they won several international awards including 2019 International Architecture Awards (IAA) for Airports and Transportation Centers category in the prestigious World Architecture Festival for Terminal 2.
With constant coordination with the current administration, GMCAC and MCIA will bring further development not only in the Visayas but throughout the whole country to offer outstanding services to the people.
Meanwhile, MCIA also reported that they recorded over 12 million passengers arrivals before the pandemic and in 2019, MCIA’s incoming and outgoing passengers reached more than 8.3 million for domestic and over 4.2 million for international, Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority revealed in a report.
