Google’s Titan Security Key Finally Released
Initially built for internal Google use and now built to keep you protected, Google’s in-house Titan Security Key went live August 30 in Google Store for everyone to order and enjoy.
Designed for FIDO standard, the gadget functions as a second factor for a string of services such as Facebook, Github, and Dropbox. It verifies itself with a complex handshake, making for increased resistance to phishing attacks and even supply chain attacks.
“This firmware is sealed permanently into a secure element hardware chip… designed to resist physical attacks aimed at extracting firmware and secret key material,” Cloud product manager Christian Braand opened in a post.
The key however is made specifically for Google account logins, in particular the October-announced Advanced Protection Program.
The two-factor device is purchasable with a complete kit containing a USB key, a Bluetooth key, and multiple connectors – all for 50 USD and instant shipping.
The Titan Security key can be enabled via a Google account following the two-step verification page, or join the Advanced Protection Program here. (Adapted by Lara Eviota)
