Google Unveils Its Self-Driving Car
Google has recently unveiled its self-driving car at the Recode Code Conference in Palos Verdes, California.
The two-seater prototype vehicle has been designed and built by Google X, the company’s group headed by Google co-founder Sergey Brin. The car has no steering wheel, accelerator or brake pedals. It relies on the latest version of Google’s built-in sensors and software to control the car.
“We took a look from the ground up of what a self-driving car would look like,” Sergey Brin told the conference.
Google has said that it wants to create a car that is significantly safer than human-driven cars within the next few years.
According to Brin, the cars have no accidents during testing. However, the cars only operate at 25 miles per hour, which gives them more time to react to obstacles.
Google’s robo-cars have logged more than 700,000 miles since it began testing its self-driven car concept in 2009. Google currently expects to have self driving cars ready for public use by 2017.
Google has also shown off a real-world demonstration it ran earlier this month. The video shows the first non-Google employees to ride in the prototype self-driving car.
