Google Maps Rolls Out New Quality of Life Features for Navigating
Google is rolling out significant updates to its navigation apps, Google Maps and Waze, with the changes aim to enhance user experience and bring the two platforms closer together.
This comes as Google Maps is now introducing a more robust incident reporting system, similar to Waze’s feature. Drivers can now report incidents like road closures, construction, speed cameras, or police presence with larger icons for better visibility, to which other drivers can confirm or deny reported incidents with a simple tap, ensuring accuracy of the reports coming in the navigation app.
Moreover, Google Maps will now offer more specific guidance as users approach their destination, with a particular focus on identifying building entrances.
As you near your destination, Google Maps will highlight the exact building you’re going to in red. A green indicator will then point you towards the main entrance, making it easier to locate the correct entry point, especially in large complexes or unfamiliar areas.
Additionally, the app will now display nearby parking lots to assist drivers in finding available parking spaces.
The improved incident reporting feature is now available on the Google Maps app on Android, iOS, Android Auto and Apple Carplay, with the destination guidance feature expected to be available “in the coming weeks.” (GFB)
