Philippine number one mobile brand Globe Telecom led the discussion on its digital and mobile business models at a panel session alongside representatives from the largest companies in Asia and the World at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2015
Globe Head of Strategy & Corporate Development for Consumer Business Benett Aquino discussed “Business Models for the Future of Mobile Internet”, further expounding on the advantages of a mobile first service, growth of partnerships, products and services, and strategies in reaching different markets.
Alongside Aquino are known luminaries in the mobile industry. These include Peter Greenberger of Twitter, Mausam Bhatt of Flipkart, and Pranay Jivrajka of OlaCabs.
Aquino shared the advantages of having a mobile-first service and consumers. “We see that our mobile-first users usually have a pattern of heavy app usage especially for social networking, content consumption, and mobile gaming. This has been made possible as mobile devices and connectivity are portable and always available for the customer. The expectation is to have a growth of penetration in the use of smartphones and Internet data as new up and coming services like crowdsourcing apps and customized content namely Spotify are now available. “
With extensive transformation to give better service to its customers, Globe embraces partnerships and offers products and services that keep up with the rapidly evolving customer behavior and trends. “ Globe gives customers value-for-money services with the best experience possible. Content partnerships with the likes of Disney, NBA and Facebook drives the shift of the customer from use of core services to adoption of data. Having strong governance and apt strategies that drives the company to the right direction will allow us to give products and services that are tailor-fitted to the needs of the customer,” added Aquino.
Aquino concluded by looking forward in extending the company’s reach to give services for different markets. He noted that it is imperative to know the customer and what they want through building partnerships and services that are most relevant. “In expanding the range of market, we need to plan clearly as to how we can address the needs of the people. Giving them incentives and deals such as free content mad available upon subscription to promos and offers will kick-start data adoption.”
