Globe Prepaid Enables 21st Century Learning in the Countryside

Public high schools in the provinces, specifically in Batangas and Negros Occidental, finally have access to 21st century learning with the continued expansion of the Global Filipino School (GFS) program, a long-term educational initiative of Globe Prepaid.

Selected educational institutions for GFS are Sico 1.0 National High School in San Juan, Batangas and Bata National High School in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental. Teachers in the said schools underwent a five-day teacher training workshop in information and communications technology (ICT) integration inside the classrooms, which they will eventually share with the teachers in neighboring schools.

“We believe in the importance of providing quality education to the Filipino youth to give them a brighter future. Thus, we work closely with Globe Corporate Social Responsibility in bringing innovative education to public schools, teachers and students.  One way to accomplish this is through GFS, a program being conducted by Globe in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) to transform select public schools into centers of ICT excellence,” said Director of Globe Prepaid Raymond Policarpio.

“With the tools available for them under GFS, the teachers can now have access to limitless teaching and learning engagements available on the Internet.  They can enroll in online learning channels, engage in teleconferencing for best practices, and even operate classroom management tools.  In short, a teacher can now work faster, more efficiently and effectively through the program,” he added.

As a GFS, both schools are committed to become ICT training hubs for the their respective DepEd divisions. This means that apart from ensuring all homeroom teachers of each school will be trained on ICT integration in the classroom, teachers from various schools within the division will also complete their ICT training workshops.

Aside from the special teaching methods, Globe Prepaid also provided the schools with superior online connectivity via Tattoo as well as a Globe Mobile laboratory package which consists of a set of netbooks, mobile projectors, printers and sound systems that will enable teachers to bring their ICT-centered engagements into the classroom.

The first GFS program was implemented in Bohol’s Bilar National High School in December 2012 after an evaluation on school management, teacher and student development, as well as ability and potential to forge partnerships and collaboration with the community stakeholders for sustainable development projects.
