‘Give Exact Change,’ DTI Tells Biz Establishments
Business establishments must provide their customers with the exact change after purchasing a product or availing services.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Antique reminded business establishments in the province of the Republic Act 10909 or the No Shortchanging Act of 2016.
Lynna Joy Cardinal, trade and industry development specialist, said that business establishments must not give lesser than the exact change no matter how small the amount is.
“We do not allow sales personnel and even managers to tell their costumers that they do not have the exact change,” she said in radio interview with PIA.
She added that if a buyer experiences shortchanging in a particular establishment, he or she has the right to report the concern at the Consumer Welfare Desk.
If the concern is unsettled, buyers can also file a complaint through DTI, not less than 10 working days after the violation had been committed.
Business establishments will be fined depending on the severity of the complaint.
Establishments will be fined P500 on the first offense; P5,000 on the second offense; P15,000 and a three-month license to operate suspension on the third offense; and P25,000 and revoking of license to operate for the fourth offense, according to the DTI.
“DTI continues to advocate fair business transaction between businesses and consumers,” said Cardinal. (JSC/CBA/PIA6 Antique)
