Giant Paella-Cooking Affair Returns for the Third Time
Top Filipino and Spanish chefs are cooking a giant paella for the third time to serve up an even bigger gastronomic event next month.
“Paella Gigante” will launch Flavors of the Philippines Festival 2017, one of the main components of the upcoming Madrid Fusion Manila 2017.
The cooking affair will take place at the Greenbelt 3 Park in Ayala Center, Makati City on Saturday and will again feature a 10-ft.-wide paella that will be served to the audience.
Paella is a Spanish dish of rice, saffron, chicken cooked and served in a large shallow pan known as a paellera. It is usually eaten with tapas and beer.
This particular paella will require 100 kg. of rice, 13 liters of olive oil, and 265 kg. of a mix of chicken, chorizo, shrimp, prawns, squid, and mussels.
Guests who wish to attend the event can purchase tickets — PHP300 for those who want to try the paella, and PHP500 for those who want the paella and gin tonic.
The Department of Tourism (DOT), organizer of the event, said that this, among other events leading up to Madrid Fusion Manila, has established the Philippines as a center of gastronomy in Asia.
Madrid Fusion Manila is the first and only Asian edition of Madrid Fusión, the most important gastronomy event in the world, celebrated annually in Madrid, Spain since 2003.
The event will take place on April 6-8 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. (PNA)
