GCash Disappears on Google Play Store, Company Says for Updates
Late last night, users were surprised to find that the GCash app had vanished from the Google Play Store, prompting concerns and speculation, with the company ensuring users that their funds and accounts remain secure.
As of 2 AM, the GCash app was nowhere to be found on the Play Store, leading to the circulation of fake news suggesting the app’s complete disappearance and potential loss of user funds.
Addressing these concerns, GCash released a series of statements on their social media pages, clarifying the situation.
“Be warned of these posts circulating on social media. GCash services continue to be accessible. Rest assured that your funds are safe and secure,” their first statement said.
They followed up hours later with a new statement saying that the app is currently being updated, but did not say they pulled the app from the Play Store themselves.
“GCash is updating some features of the app for Android users and is closely working with Google to make it available on the Play Store again. For users who wish to download the app from the Google Play Store, kindly stay tuned for more updates.”
The company added “Current GCash users can use the app and they can be assured that their accounts and funds are safe and secure. The GCash app remains available on the Apple App Store and the Huawei App Gallery. Do not download the GCash app from untrusted sources.”
As of writing, the GCash app is still available on the Apple App Store, and on other app markets such as Huawei’s App Gallery, Xiaomi’s GetApps, vivo’s V-Appstore, and realme’s App Market. (GFB)
