G-7 to pledge humanitarian support to fight terrorism
Tokyo (PNA/Kyodo) — Group of Seven leaders are expected to pledge a reduction in poverty and educational assistance to keep people from turning to violent extremism in the global fight against terrorism when they meet in Japan later this month, Japanese government sources said Saturday.
The leaders of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States and the European Union will adopt the action plan centering on measures to eradicate social conditions which lead to extremism in their May 26 to 27 summit in the central Japanese prefecture of Mie, the sources said.
While a series of terror attacks by Islamic State militants have led to armed response from western countries, the action plan will focus on means to improve the standard of living and support Islamic moderates, they said. *(PNA/Kyodo) BNB/SSC*
