“Among the aims of French cultural diplomacy is to promote cultural diversity through cinema. In the Philippines, the French Film Festival has been giving the Filipino public a glimpse of French culture and society for 23 years. It provides an alternative to the commercial programming of movie theatres, thereby promoting this diversity to the local audience,” explained French Ambassador Nicolas Galey.

The 23rd French Film Festival in Davao City will feature eight films. These films are Louise en hiver, Une Vie, Rock’n Roll, Orpheline, Polina danser sa vie, Epouse-moi mon pote, Personal Shopper and La Priere.

Personal Shopper was the opening film of the Cannes Film Festival in 2016 and stars Kristen Stewart of The Twilight Saga series of films. While Rock’n Roll stars Marion Cotillard who also appeared in several Hollywood movies.

This is the first time that the French Embassy has brought the film festival to Davao City. The films presented embody the richness and depth of French society through the creativity of French filmmakers.
