Fire Razes 70 Houses in Cebu City Fire
At least 70 houses were razed down by a fire that hit the densely-populated Sitio Lower Ponce in Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City Tuesday night.
No one was reported hurt.
Fire probers placed the initial damage to property caused by the fire at PHP500,000.
FO1 Grace Colina, radio operator of the Cebu City Fire Station, said they received the alarm at 6:46 p.m. Tuesday.
Firefighters struggled to penetrate the fire scene, which is about 70 meters from the main road.
Colina said the alarm was raised to Task Force Alpha, which meant firefighters from the cities of Mandaue, Talisay, Lapu-Lapu and Consolacion were tapped to help them.
Volunteer firefighters also helped put out the fire, she said.
Firefighters contained the flames and kept these from spreading to other houses in the neighborhood at 8:14 p.m. on Tuesday.
Fire probers were still investigating the cause of the fire as the displaced families took temporary shelter at the barangay’s covered basketball court. (PNA) JMC/EB/EBP
